About CRLS

Cambridge Rindge & Latin School is a comprehensive high school divided into four Learning Communities designed to promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students.

Honors courses are offered in all core classes (English, History, Mathematics and Science); Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available to qualified students in grades 11 and 12.

MISSION

The mission of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School is to provide a quality education to every student through rigorous, comprehensive, and personalized teaching and learning. Working in partnership with families and the wider community, we maintain a nurturing, respectful, and safe environment where educators and students hold themselves to high standards. We value academic excellence, creativity, diversity, perseverance, collaboration, and responsible decision-making.  Within and across our learning communities, we prepare lifelong learners who participate thoughtfully, responsibly, and productively in a global, democratic society.

In 2005, CRLS implemented the 4x4 Block Schedule with four 84-minute periods each day and
two 90-day semesters each year. The Block Schedule provides many benefits to students and
teachers including: fewer classes for students to prepare for each night, fewer books and
materials to manage, and more individualized attention from the teacher. The longer class
periods give students more time to think and engage in active learning. Teachers benefit from
more useable instructional time each day because less time is lost with beginning and ending
classes. Fewer class changes in a day mean less change for disruption and discipline problems
at school. More information is available here.

CRLS includes Rindge School of Technical Arts (RSTA) with state-of-the-art facilities for a wide
variety of career and technical programs. In addition, the High School Extension Program (HSEP) serves a small population of high school students who have had difficulty achieving academic success in a more traditional setting. Located at the former Longfellow School building at 359 Broadway, the program is modeled on other successful, nontraditional high school programs in the nation.
