Schools as Museums

Schools as Museums

Welcome to Cambridge and Latin School where we’re making art come alive!

Student work displayed at CRLS

We’re expanding artistic and creative expression in the halls and on the walls of our institution.

Here at CRLS we have on display the artistic talent of creative hands and minds. As you walk the halls your visual senses will be entertained by the works of talented young people within our school. You will be simultaneously amused, amazed and awed by the creations of our visually inclined students.

You may be inspired to stop and reflect or moved to comment and engage. Whatever your predilection, the art will evoke a reaction. Some exhibits may even invite you to interact. Our displays will permit students, faculty, and visitors to experience an museum like environment.

The concept of school as an art museum creates an environment which is designed to encourage critical thinking and foster creative problem solving. We’re providing our students with an opportunity to experience what its like to be an exhibiting artist. We’re also giving our staff members in other disciplines opportunities to collaborate around particular student exhibits. For example, some members of our language Arts Department have students to make written commentaries on the two and three dimensional exhibits on display.

Some students have been asked to look at a particular space and think in terms of creating a piece of art work for that particular space. This approach challenges the student to think in terms of solving a problem involving design, architecture, placement, composition and aesthetics. Often students will be assigned to collaborative groups called think tanks.
