The Athletic Philosophy
Interscholastic sports play an important part in the lives of many young people. In the Cambridge Public Schools, we are committed to providing the community and students with an excellent program. At the end of the season, students look back on their experience as fulfilling and rewarding. Athletes should grow as individuals, learn to work as a team, appreciate hard work, and most of all, enjoy their experience. The person who assumes the important responsibility to make this all happen is the coach!
The Concept of the Program
The Emphasis in each sport will be to develop a successful varsity sports program. With this in mind, each sport will be viewed as one program presided over by a varsity coach. The varsity coach will be helped by assistant coaches, the junior varsity coach, as well as volunteer and freshman coaches (if applicable). Once the JV season has been completed, the JV coach will assume the role of varsity assistant.
In all sports the students will be taught one system from the freshman level up through the varsity. The varsity coach will dictate the offense, defense, and fundamental skills that should be taught on all levels. The rationale is simple: if the varsity coach is to be held responsible for the success of the program, he or she must have control of the entire program.
The entire coaching staff will make team roster decisions with the final decision being made by the varsity coach.
Head Coaching Responsibilities
The Head coach will be held directly responsible for the success of the program.
